Updates for April 4, 2024

by Laurent Pellegrino, Founder and CEO
Enhancement
New
  • Introducing an advanced feature for Newspages: now you can select publications to exclude from the default Newspage listing based on labels, such as labels for upcoming features. To access this feature, click on "Newspage" in the left navigation menu, scroll to the bottom of the page, and select "Advanced options".

  • Add a confirmation dialog to acknowledge the deletion of a featured image from a publication.

  • Add AutoSubmitted and Precedence headers when appropriate for emails sent by Noticeable to better manage email behavior.

  • Fixed a bug that occurred when duplicating a publication with a featured image; the copy was using the reference to the same featured image instead of creating a copy. Now, a duplicated publication no longer has any featured image.

  • Resolved a problem where the drag-and-drop functionality for files was not operating correctly on file input fields.

Boost for Newpage Custom Domains 🚀

by Laurent Pellegrino, Founder and CEO
Enhancement
Newspages

We have introduced a technical enhancement that elevates speed, security and the ease of configuring custom domains for your Newspages.

Previously, if you wanted to use a custom domain like updates.acme.com for your Noticeable Newspage, you were required to set up two DNS records: a TXT record to verify domain ownership and another to link to Noticeable's servers.

As of now, Noticeable utilizes Cloudflare's extensive global infrastructure for managing custom domains, simplifying the process. The need for a TXT DNS record for domain verification is eliminated. If you've previously set up a TXT record beginning with _noticeable, it's now safe to remove it. You'll only need a single CNAME record pointing to custom.noticeable.news, which you likely already have if you've configured a custom domain before.

Leveraging Cloudflare's infrastructure enhances the speed of HTTPS certificate issuance for your custom domain and reduces network latency with its presence in over 250 regions worldwide. Additionally, loading times get a boost from early hints support, and security is strengthened with the enforcement of at least TLS 1.2 and support for TLS 1.3.

It's important to note that Cloudflare employs the Google Trust Services certificate authority for signing TLS certificates. If you encounter an ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH error with your custom domain, it might be due to CAA DNS records that don't include pki.goog on your parent domain. Adding pki.goog to your CAA records and initiating a custom domain verification through the Noticeable dashboard should resolve the issue:

  1. Open the Noticeable Dashboard.

  2. Navigate to “Newspage” in the left menu.

  3. Under “Basic & Custom Domain”, and click on “Verify Domain”.

Should you have any questions or require assistance, feel free to share your feedback below or drop us a line.

Auto-Translation for Multi-Language Publishing

by Laurent Pellegrino, Founder and CEO
New

We're delighted to unveil our automatic translation feature for publications.

The "Duplicate" option you see alongside each publication in the listings has now evolved into "Copy to". Within this, you'll find a fresh option to instantly translate the title and content into the language of your choice.

If you're announcing in multiple languages, this is your new best friend. With our suggestion to create a distinct project for each language to ensure granular control over settings, transferring a publication to a different project with auto-translation has never been easier. A couple of clicks, a swift review, and it's all set for publishing!

End User Authentication for Widgets

by Laurent Pellegrino, Founder and CEO
New
Widgets

We’re excited to introduce end user authentication with Noticeable widgets.

End user authentication is a feature you can optionally integrate to verify the identities of your end users. This ensures that when end users engage with widgets, such as commenting, their identity is confirmed and secure from impersonation.

How does it function?

Noticeable employs Single Sign-On (SSO) tokens for this authentication process:

  1. On your server(s) side, you create an SSO token for each end user (using a secret we share).

  2. You pass this SSO token with our Javascript SDK before rendering any widget.

  3. Voilà! Your end user's identity is now securely authenticated with Noticeable widgets.

Note: While it's still possible to pass end user traits using our Javascript SDK as outlined in our various identification methods, this approach is no longer recommended.

Support Email Option in Newspage Settings 📧

by Laurent Pellegrino, Founder and CEO
New

You now have the option to specify a support email address in your Newspage settings. If you choose to do so, this email will become the unified point of contact, replacing the individual email addresses of publication authors.

Opting for this feature offers a consistent point of contact for all your publications, making communication more streamlined. Plus, it allows for the privacy of your authors' email addresses to be maintained without having to edit each publication's details individually. Note that entering a support email address is optional."

How to enable?

  1. Go to "Newspage" in the left menu.

  2. Scroll to the "Customization” settings group.

  3. Find the field named "Email support," enter your email, and save.

Updates for August 26, 2023

by Laurent Pellegrino, Founder and CEO
Enhancement

Here's a concise overview of some recent technical improvements:

  • Critical Email Duplication Fix: We've addressed a crucial bug that caused the dispatch of duplicate emails under specific and rare conditions. Multiple safeguards have also been implemented to ensure this issue won't recur.

  • Enhanced design: All Noticeable component labels now have rounded corners for a sleek, modern appearance. You still have the possibility to enforce your own styles with custom CSS.

  • Email display optimization: Emails sent by Noticeable now display better on earlier versions of Outlook. For the best quality on retina displays, use a logo height of 128px, which will scale down to 64px.

  • Faster SDK load times: In our continuous effort to optimize user experience, we’ve reduced the size of the Noticeable SDK script by approximately 40%, leading to quicker initial loading times.

  • Spam countermeasures: Due to increased spam related to comments and reactions, we've reduced the rate limit for such actions. Several spam comments have been deleted, and we're actively developing more robust spam prevention measures.

  • Subscriber list fix: Fixed a pagination glitch when listing email subscribers from the dashboard.

Improved Image Hosting ⚡️

by Laurent Pellegrino, Founder and CEO
Enhancement

We're delighted to bring you a significant technical upgrade that promises to improve both your experience and that of your users. We deemed it important to share this with you publicly given the potential benefits.

From this moment on, all images uploaded to Noticeable, whether newly added or previously uploaded, are hosted on the Cloudflare Content Delivery Network (CDN) with an aggressive caching strategy.

Cloudflare's impressive network spans over 300 cities globally, which dramatically reduces latency and ensures your images load quickly for users everywhere. Our aggressive caching policy amplifies these benefits by boosting the user experience during both initial loading and subsequent visits.

Moreover, we've broadened the image upload limitations. You are now permitted to upload image files up to 5MiB in size. In addition to GIF, JPEG, and PNG formats, we're also supporting SVG images, providing you with more flexibility and options.

Lastly, we've refined the URLs in which we present your uploaded images. Gone are the days of the generic Google domain URLs with their confusing hierarchy and opaque tokens. We've replaced them with clear URLs under the https://storage.noticeable.io domain name.
